Independent MP for Leicester South

Serving Leicester South

I am honoured to be your independent MP for Leicester South. My roots run deep in this city, having been raised, educated, and now working here. Leicester South isn't just a place where I conduct business; it's my heart, home, and commitment.

For over 15 years, I have been privileged to serve our community through my award-winning optical practice and my community work. This has given me a unique perspective on our city's challenges and opportunities.

Born in Malawi, I grew up in Leicester and studied optometry at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). I am a practising NHS optometrist and director of Sask Optics.

🏛 Independent Alliance

In September 2024 I was a founding member of the Independent Alliance parliamentary group. We are committed to offering a caring alternative in Parliament — standing up against the two-child benefit cap, fighting for international justice, and holding the government to account.

Parliamentary Work

I have repeatedly challenged the government in Parliament over arms sales to Israel, ceasefire breaches, and the urgent need to recognise the state of Palestine. In October 2024, I introduced the Palestinian Statehood Recognition Bill with cross-party support. The UK later recognised Palestine on 21 September 2025.

As a practising optometrist, I led a Westminster Hall debate on Glaucoma Awareness in July 2025, calling for a national framework for detection, monitoring and treatment — the leading cause of preventable blindness in the UK.

In the Community

I have witnessed firsthand the struggles of hard-working individuals and families as they try to make ends meet in the face of a rising cost of living. I have seen the strain on our NHS as it copes with increasing demand and limited resources.

But I also believe that Leicester South is a city of immense potential. We are a diverse and vibrant community, rich in culture and history. By harnessing these strengths and working together, we can build a brighter future for our city.

From defending adventure playgrounds to standing up for individual rights, I've campaigned locally to protect essential services. I proudly stood alongside the healthcare assistants at Leicester Royal Infirmary in their campaign for fair pay.
